Every year, People Magazine lists their top Hollywood risings stars to watch and two of BCKOnline favorites have made the list this year. Demi Singleton and Sainyya Sidney are the ones to watch in 2021.
According to People, this is why Singleton has made their list.
The 14-year-old New Orleans native portrays Serena Williams in the upcoming biopic King Richard, which stars Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father of tennis phenoms Serena and Venus.
“Will was so dedicated to the role,” said Singleton in her interview with the popular news outlet. The talented teen also was starstruck on set, not by her famous co-star, but when Smith’s daughter 20-year-old Willow Smith came on-set. “I was trying not to freak out!”
If you haven’t quite heard of Singleton before now, just who is this rising star? According to her IMDb biography, the talented teen, in addition to acting, is also a singer and dancer. She moved to New York City at the age of three and began training in the arts. She has studied classical ballet since the age of three and began playing the cello when she was four. Demi studied at a rigorous music conservatory for children in Brooklyn, NY for 6 years where she learned to play instruments by ear through the Suzuki Method.
At ten years old, Singleton joined the cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “School of Rock- The Musical” on Broadway for nearly a year before joining Disney’s “The Lion King” on Broadway as Young Nala. Before leaving “The Lion King”, Demi joined the cast of Godfather of Harlem, as Forest Whitaker’s granddaughter.
According to People, this is why Sidney has made their list.
The 14-year-old portrays Venus Williams in the upcoming biopic King Richard. Sidney told People that her favorite part of the day during filming was when the sisters came to visit. “Serena and Venus surprised us onset! They are the funniest people you will ever meet.”
In addition to the upcoming biopic, Sidney is slated to portray Sasha Obama in Showtime’s The First Lady series.
If you remember, the young actress has played opposite some of Hollywood’s heavy weight actors and actresses. She has starred in Hidden Figures, Roots, Fences, Kevin Heart’s Guide to Black History, and The Passage.
