Mendeecees is speaking out after a recent episode of Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta (LHHATL) portrayed him in a negative light. The criticism revolved around a scene in which he told his wife’s adopted daughter, Infinity, that she needed to find her way as a young adult.
“You’re gonna get a job to pay your rent and start to live on your own,” Mendeecees told Infinity during the segment. “We’re gonna pay your rent for the first two months,” he added. “We’re gonna help you be independent and make that transition to young adult,” Mendeecees assured Infinity.
Although Infinity was grateful for Mendeecees and Yandy Smith’s willingness to pay her rent, she did not negate her feelings of abandonment. “I just think that for me, living on my own … I think that’s not something I’m ready for. I’m not ready to be isolated,” Infinity told Yandy and Mendeecees. “For ya’ll it feels like you’re helping me, but for me, it’s showing up as life … I feel like my biological mom is putting me right back out. I’m just not ready for it.”
Infinity began to cry during the meeting, which prompted Mendeecees to exit the room. Dozens of LHHATL fans took to Instagram to rebuke both Mendeecees and Yandy for their actions during the segment. Many repeated the idea of Yandy using Infinity for a storyline on the show and even went as far as to tag the celebrity’s children with her husband in their comments.
“Enough,” Mendeecees wrote in an Instagram post to address the scrutiny. “I hate I have to address this but when y’all tagging my kids it’s getting outta hand,” the celebrity father continued.
“That conversation took an hour-long, and how it was edited to two minutes,” Mendeeces explained. “From the two minutes ya’ll get to see, it was very sad. It was sad what transpired out of that conversation,” he added. “I was trying to figure out a solution … nobody tried to be mean,” Mendeecees assured. “I’m not cold-hearted,” the celebrity father added. “I do have compassion.”
This is not the first time this season that an LHHATL cast member has accused the show’s production team of editing in a manner that shows the worst part of a segment. It was just a few weeks ago that Safaree threatened to leave the franchise after fans dragged him online for allegedly laughing at his toddler daughter after she took a tumble in his home studio. Safaree, like Mendeecees, accused production of cutting down a long scene to only show his reaction to his daughter’s fall.
Yandy Smith adopted Infinity in December 2019. The young adult currently attends college.
