FIVE BACK-TO-SCHOOL THEMED MOVIES TO WATCH FOR FAMILY NIGHT

The end of summer is quickly approaching. The 2021-2022 school year is just around the corner. Here are five back-to-school themed movies to watch for family night that will ease you and the kids back into the idea of hitting the books. If you haven’t seen these flicks or you all are gearing up to watch the again, these oldies but goodies will definitely get you in the mood for backpacks, pencils, and books in a super fun way!

1. Akeelah and the Bee

Before there was 14-year-old Zaila Avant-garde, there was Akeelah. This 2006 classic stars Keke Palmer who played a Los Angeles 11-year-old who participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Akeelah discovers that she has a talent for spelling and a determination for winning.

2.Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The Harry Potter series puts a magical twist on going back to school. You and your family will enjoy following along with the orphaned Harry Potter who learns that he is a wizard on his 11th birthday. After getting the news, Harry embarks on a journey to Hogwarts, a boarding school of magical mysteries. Harry meets new friends, makes new enemies, and somehow always ends up saving the day. The good thing about this series, is that there is more than one movie to binge!

3. Monsters University

Every great friendship has a beginning. Before Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan took on their day-to-day jobs at Monsters, Inc, the pair were roommates at Monsters University. This truly funny Disney film will have you laughing from opening credits to the end.

4. 100 Things To Do Before High School

Although this is technically a television series; however, it definitely belongs on this list. If you have a middle schooler, this just might be the one oldie but goodie for you all to stream together. 100 Things To Do Before High School follows three middle school students who have been warned about the dangers of high school. The trio does their best to make the most of their intermediate years in this hilarious comedy. Take notes and get creative. Have your middle schooler write out their own list of 100 things that they would like to do before high school!

5. School of Rock

This classic is definitely a must see if you and/or your kids love any and all things about bands. The story follows an an overly enthusiastic guitar player, Jack Black, who gets kicked out of his own band, but finds a gig posing as a substitute teacher at an elite private school. He introduces music to a hesitant group of students causing both sides to realize that rock and roll is more than just music.
