Mickey Williams is about to become a household name. The 17-year-old class of 2023 is on his way to becoming a millionaire. The talented basketball star has just signed with Excel Sports for a nil deal expected to generate millions.
According to the NY Post, the five-star basketball prospect signed a potentially lucrative contract with Excel Sports Management to handle his name, image and likeness rights. Excel vice president Mike Davis told ESPN that he believes the deal “will generate millions of dollars” for Williams.
Davis continued, “Mikey’s relevance around his peers in the basketball community is off the charts. He’s one of the most relevant personalities in the basketball community. His digital and social following speak for themselves. He’s a rare, one-of-a-kind athlete in this space. We’re going to build out his national profile and take big swings.”
Williams, is a rising senior at Lake Norman Christian in Huntersville, North Carolina and plays for Vertical Academy. He is the number 7 overall prospect in ESPN‘s Top 100 for the Class of 2023.
As a result of his deal, Williams has made sports history, becoming the first known high school athlete to sign a NIL deal. And of course, all of the colleges are vying to add this talented young prospect to their rosters. He has already received offers from Arizona, Kansas, and USC.
“The NIL rules provide a new opportunity for someone like me who has put so much energy and effort into building a community,” Williams said in a statement. “I am excited to be the first high school athlete to make this move. I love to hoop and I love engaging with my fans and look forward to continuing to share my journey with everyone.”
If you remember, recent legislation opened the door for college athletes to financially benefit from NIL endorsement opportunities and deals.
Congratulations, Mickey! The future looks extremely bright for this talented young rising star!
