Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, and their daughter, Kaavia James, are promoting the family’s new children’s book, Shady Baby. The celebrity parents and their little one shared a video clip on Tuesday (May 18) that showed them reading the book.
“Today @kaaviajames is [queen],” Gabrielle shared with her social media fans. “Shady Baby is out now,” Union told her social media fans. “Life lessons, antics, and love all await.”
Shady Baby was written by Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade to shed light on their daughter’s interesting life. Many love the persona of Kaavia James who has an Instagram following of more than one million supporters. The captions that Gabrielle places along with hilarious pictures of Kaavia often give subscribers the laugh they need to get through the workday. Shady Baby gives more narrative to the life and times of Kaav.
“What we’re trying to do is raise free children and free Black children,” Gabrielle said of her and Dwyane’s parenting tactics during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Raising free Black children shouldn’t be a radical act, but it is,” the celebrity mom added.
“Part of that freedom is not tying her into binary boxes. We don’t subscribe to ‘This is what a girl does, this is what a boy does. Your parts make you who you are,'” Union shared. “We don’t subscribe to any of that, and that’s what it’s really all about: who she is authentically and organically,” the L.A.’s Finest star explained. “When you give kids the freedom, and you get out of your own way and don’t let your own fear guide your parenting, that’s the only way that we can move these days.”
