Eddie Murphy views parenthood as the center of everything. The Coming 2 America star tells Mirror exclusively that being a dad to 10 kids has reshaped his career.
“The whole idea of being out there and doing three movies a year, that s*** is over,” Murphy shares. “I have got all these babies,” the celebrity father adds.
Eddie Murphy worked alongside his daughter, Bella Murphy, to bring the long-awaited sequel to Coming To America (1988) to life. The new film picks up where the first storyline ends. Prince Akeem has a son in Coming 2 America who is well into his 30s. The prince must find a way to blend his family and cultures together.
Eddie Murphy knows a few things about blended families. The celebrity dad has five kids with his ex-wife, Nicole Murphy, and two kids with his girlfriend, Paige Butcher. Murphy also has children from other relationships, including his daughter named Angel with Spice Girls singer Mel B.
“I love fatherhood,” Eddie tells Mirror. “That is the centre of everything,” the legendary comedian adds. “I am so blessed with my kids. I don’t have one bad seed. I don’t have any like, ‘Oh you are the one.’I don’t have any of that. My kids are so great, normal people – and nobody is like the Hollywood jerk kid. My kids are smart and are trying to do stuff. I am blessed with my kids. I really, really got lucky.”
Eddie Murphy previously told the press that his kids were his legacy. “My legacy is not my work,” Murphy shared during an interview with Al Roker of TODAY. “My legacy is my children,” the Hollywood veteran declared. “My legacy are (sic) these 10 human beings that I brought into this world.”
