Beverly Johnson is stunning! The veteran model recently celebrated her sixty-ninth birthday with her daughter, Anansa Sims, and grandkids.
“Happy Birthday Mommy,” Anansa exclaimed online. “We love celebrating our Queen,” Sims wrote online. Anansa also shared an Instagram series that showed video clips of Beverly Johnson commemorating her birthday with her grandchildren. “Sixty-nine and fine,” Anansa wrote online. “Happy Birthday,” one fan said. “Living your best life.”
Beverly Johnson is recognized as a trailblazer because she was the first African-American woman to grace the cover of Vogue in 1974. Much has changed since then. Racism in the fashion industry, however, remains a barrier for Black women.
“Black culture contributes enormously to the fashion industry,” Johnson said during a recent interview. “But black people are not compensated for it,” the veteran model shared.
“I was reprimanded for requesting black photographers, makeup artists, and hairstylists for photo shoots,” Johnson continued. “Silence on race was then — and still is — the cost of admission to the fashion industry’s top echelons,” Beverly concluded.
Beverly Johnson continues to carve out her path in the fashion industry with a haircare line and other endorsements that build her platform. Stay tuned for more celebrity family news!
