Fifteen-year-old Madison Brown is truly making a name for herself in the world of dance. With Misty Copeland as her idol, Brown too proving that #blackgirlmagic is indeed real.
“I love jumping. I feel like I’m flying,” Brown said in a recent interview with dancespirit.com when asked about her favorite dance step. The young dancer also went on to give advice to those who want to follow in her footsteps.
“Being a dancer is hard! You have to keep a positive attitude and not second-guess that this is what you want to do. Focus on what you love.”
Brown found a love for ballet and tap as a toddler, shortly there after she added lyrical, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop to her repertoire. As every child, she had additional activities such as gymnastics, tennis, and piano, that she was involved in; however, it was dance that captured her heart.
“I loved the way dance made me feel,” she said in her interview. “Whether the movement is fluid or staccato, you can make it your own.”
Her dedication, passion, maturity, and drive for dance has been noted by not only the director of Lents Dance Company, but she also received praise from none other than seasoned dancer herself, Jennifer Lopez, when Brown competed on season two of NBC’s Wold of Dance.
“She had facility, focus, and drive,” Brittany Lents, director of Lents Dance Company remembers when she first saw Brown at nine-years-old. “She’s strong and acrobatic. She has amazing lines,” Lents said in the interview with dancespirit.com. “Plus, she has an innate ability to feel music. That’s her star quality.”
And star quality is exactly what this talented young super star has. She sets herself apart from the rest as she is able to switch from ballet to contemporary styles with ease.
It is without a doubt that we will be seeing much more of this talented young dancer and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for her. Of course, our bet, it is unquestionably going to be amazing.
