NBA player Iman Shumpert and his wife, singer Teyana Taylor, recently welcomed their second child, Rue Rose Shumpert, into the world. Besides marveling at his new baby, the NBA champion marveled at his wife’s post-pregnancy body, noting that Teyana did not have any stretch marks, which are common for post-pregnant women. “I searched Teyana’s body at least three times after Rue got here… not one stretch mark… sound the alarm lol,” said Shumpert.
Iman Shumpert later clarified his comments after receiving backlash. “There was confusion in my DMs about the ‘stretch mark’ comment. I didn’t say there was something wrong with them. Nor did I mean for that to be a one-up. I was a 12 lb, 4 oz baby that my mom had naturally. I know what carrying a baby does to a woman’s body… I just was stating it’s impressive that my wife still has none,” explained Shumpert. “To those women that do have beauty marks from their child, I hope your man kisses every one of them to thank you for the children you brought into this world. Love is love.”
On September 6, Teyana Taylor gave birth to Rue Rose in their bathroom without the assistance of a hospital. Iman and Teyana’s first child, 4-year-old Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr., was also delivered in their bathroom. This time, however, Iman and Taylor had singer Erykah Badu as midwife to help deliver Rue Rose. Both Iman and Teyana took to Instagram to celebrate Rue Rose’s birth. They posted GIFs of their adorable newborn and captioned their posts:
“At 3:28 am on Sept 6th, 2020 Rue Rose 🌹 decided that the baby shower thrown for her and mommy was too lit. She didn’t make the party but she managed to make the next day her birthdate!!! Now…when we buy homes, we always find a bathroom with great energy… but not in a million years would you be able to tell me we’d deliver both of our daughters in a bathroom without the assistance of a hospital!” wrote Shumpert. “Our newest edition entered the world in the water and came out looking around and ready to explore! A healthy child. A little sister. Another daughter. Black love wins…. again. Welcome baby girl… we love you! 🌹 @babyruerose.”
