A pregnant Teyana Taylor is adding her voice, literally, to bring awareness to the continued onslaught of police violence and brutality in her new music video for her single, “Still.”
In the five minute video, the breathtaking visuals all tell a heart wrenching story, as Taylor dresses as Malcom X, Huey P. Newton, and victims of police brutality in the self-directed piece.
“We are STILL emotional. We STILL keep fighting for love, justice. Yet we STILL keep losing our beautiful black lives. Where’s our healing? #STILL official video out now! (Link is in bio),” Taylor commented in a recent Instagram post. “I shot this video a few months ago & its crazy how to this day our cry for love is STILL so relevant today and plans to be for a very long time smh! WE DEMAND CHANGE!!! There wasn’t one day that went by in the editing room that I didn’t shed a tear. Smh This project means so much to me and I’m honored to finally be able to share with you. Thank you to everyone Involved.”
As you saw in the video, the project includes archival footage of past and present protests over racial injustice and police brutality. “Still” is on Taylor’s latest LP, The Album, which hit the market back in June. The project features guest voices such as Erykah Badu, Missy Elliot, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Quavo, and many others.
The 29-year-old actress, model, and singer is expecting her second child with husband NBA pro, Iman Shumpert. The pair, parents to a 4-year-old daughter, Iman Tayla, aka “Junie,” said in an exclusive interview with People Magazine back in June of this year that, “We’re ready, and we’re very excited. Iman is super excited. Junie is ecstatic-I’m talking super ecstatic. Everybody is just excited. I can’t wait. I’ve got three more months left until we meet our little princess.”
When asked about how her daughter, “Junie” is truly handling the impending blessed event of becoming a big sister, Taylor told the magazine that, “Junie has a lot of ideas,” she says with a laugh. “We want to keep her as involved as possible because Junie clearly thinks that this is her baby. She talks to my stomach all the time. It’s so good to see that. Kids handle siblings differently. You have kids that are a little bit jealous. But she’s so excited and preparing herself to be a big sister. She constantly kisses my stomach, she constantly talks to the baby. Even when we go to the store, she’s like, ‘Okay, mom, this is for the baby.’ She’s so ready. She’s going to be such a great big sister.”
Congratulations are definitely in order all around for Taylor. We cannot wait to meet your new baby girl and see what is next for this truly amazingly talented young artist.
