In celebration of Pride Month (June 2020), NBA legend Dwyane Wade created a custom pair of ‘Pride’ shoes in honor of his 13-year-old transgender daughter Zaya Wade.
Dwyane Wade has a sportswear brand, Way of Wade, and through them, he created the customized kicks for Pride Month. He took to Instagram to show off the shoes, which are rainbow-colored in honor of the LGBTQ+ community, and they even have “Zaya Wade” written on them. In the caption, Wade wrote, “Pride 🏳️🌈 @zayawade.”

The shoes aren’t the only fashion statement Dwyane Wade had in celebration of Pride Month; he also showed off a shirt that had the Way of Wade logo and the word “PRIDE” on it in rainbow letters. Wade captioned the post with a message on what Pride means, writing: “Gay pride or LGBT pride is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as a social group. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements! 🏳️🌈 #WeSupportEachOtherWithPride.”

Zaya Wade was quite happy with her shoes, and Dwyane was proud to create them for her. He posted a picture of Zaya wearing the ‘Pride’ shoes and shirt with a smile, and he captioned the post: “Proud pops moment for me creating these shoes for @zayawade #Wow8 #pride🌈.”
Including Zaya, Dwyane Wade had her elder brother, 18-year-old Zaire, and his 6-year-old son Xavier Wade from different relationships. He also has another daughter, 1-year-old Kaavia Wade, with his wife, actress Gabrielle Union. Originally born as Zion, Zaya came out as transgender and changed her name in February 2020. Dwyane and Gabrielle haven’t hesitated to defend Zaya’s sexuality in the past and since Zaya came out, they have been nothing but loving and supportive to her.
