In an early celebration of Mother’s Day, singer Brandy released the official music video for her new hit single “Baby Mama” featuring Chance the Rapper.
“Baby Mama” is the Grammy-winning singer’s tribute to hardworking single mothers like herself. It will feature on Brandy’s upcoming studio album, her first one since her 2012 album Two Eleven. In the video, Brandy sings and dances in a stunning plaid suit while celebrating single mothers. “I ain’t with that drama not that baby mama / Ain’t dependent on ya I’m a baby mama,” sings Brandy.
Chance the Rapper, a father of two daughters, joins in, championing independent single moms who get along without men just fine with his verse. “I know it’s hard when your baby mama don’t want you / Especially if she don’t need you / Especially if she used to feed you / Especially if she used to keep you / Especially if you used to cheat too / Wait come and think of it, she didn’t never really need you,” raps Chance.

Brandy shared that her song was inspired by her 17-year-old daughter Sy’rai Smith. Brandy raised Sy’rai as a single mother and dedicated the song to her and to single baby mothers everywhere. Brandy’s love for her dear daughter Sy’rai is reflected in the song’s lyrics: “This song ain’t just for me, it’s for every mama, yeah / Every day I breathe, it’s for my little mama / I’m every women and a baby mama.”
Brandy wrote: “The inspiration for “Baby Mama” was of course my daughter and how she makes me a better person. I wanted to do a song about her and speak to all baby mama’s out there that may feel like they can’t make it or they can’t push through, you know, if you use your child as an inspiration you can do anything and I want everybody to feel that. I have to give Chance the Rapper a huge shout out, he spit a really really dope verse on it and I’m so pleased with it. – Love, Brandy,”
