NBA superstar LeBron James is known for his greatness on and off the court, and proved it with the awards he received at the 2020 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. During the virtual award show, James was honored with two awards: “Favorite Male Sports Star” and the first-ever “Generation Change Award.”
LeBron James earned the “Generation Change Award” for his commitment to creating real and lasting change through education with his charity, The LeBron James Family Foundation, which is hosting a virtual graduation event on May 16 to honor high school seniors who will not have graduation ceremonies due to coronavirus. In addition, James opened up his groundbreaking I Promise School in 2018. Located in James’ hometown of Akron, Ohio, the elementary school provides Akron’s most at-risk students and their families with educational resources and support.

LeBron James thanked Nickelodeon and the fans who voted for him in a speech. “It’s an honor to be awarded the Generation Change Award,” said James. “It means a lot to not only myself, but to my family, to my fans, and also to my kids at my school back in Akron, Ohio. Thank you guys so much.”
“It’s just not about me, it’s about you guys as well. I’m so much appreciative,” continued James. “And I just want to say one thing; I hope everyone is staying safe throughout these difficult times. But it’s an amazing time because we’re all spending a lot of time at home with our families. There’s nothing better than being with your family throughout difficult times. Everyone stay well, stay blessed, stay safe and stay healthy. We’ll get back to what we know as normal very soon.”
