Sophia Bush joined Ashlyn Harris and her children, Sloane, 5, and Ocean, 4, for A Sense of Home’s inaugural New York City Gala on Sept. 23.
The One Tree Hill actress and retired U.S. soccer star attended the event at the IAC Building in Manhattan, where they were honored with the Vanguard Angel Award for their support of the organization and its mission.
A Sense of Home works with young people aging out of foster care, helping them furnish their homes and providing continued support as they begin living independently. The nonprofit spent more than a decade in Los Angeles before expanding to New York earlier this year.
The cause is especially meaningful for Harris, who adopted Sloane and Ocean with ex-wife Ali Krieger. The former U.S. Women’s National Team players separated in 2023 and now co-parent their children.
That same year, Harris began dating Bush. During a June 2026 conversation with SheKnows, she shared how she knew it was time to introduce Bush to her kids.
“I don’t think there’s a moment. I think there’s just a knowing,” Harris said. “I think, as a single mom dating, that’s always in the forefront and back of your mind. You’re not only just dating one person, you’re dating a unit.”
She continued, “She checked every box for me and for the kids. I’m lucky to be able to love her.”
Harris also spoke about what Bush’s first meeting with her children was like.
“I think it’s just a matter of timing and making sure that it was a serious relationship and not just a person who’s going to be in and out. I think just being really intentional when it comes to young kids and who you introduce them to, you got to make sure it’s going to be something that’s long-term,” she said.
