Amirah O’Neal, the 18-year-old daughter of four-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neal, announced on April 16 that she is committing to LSU. Her announcement comes one day after her older brother Shareef O’Neal officially transferred to LSU, making her the second of Shaq’s children to follow in their father’s footsteps as an LSU Tiger.
Amirah O’Neal played high school basketball at Crossroads High School in Santa Monica, California, where she averaged 17.2 points per game and was a four-time All-CIF selection, three-time All-Gold Coast League selection, and a two-time All-State selection. Now O’Neal looks to further her basketball career as a member of coach Nikki Fargas’ LSU Lady Tigers.

Amirah O’Neal took to Instagram to announce her decision. “One of the most difficult decisions for a person my age to make, is the jump from high school to college,” says O’Neal. “Although I don’t fully know what’s ahead of me, I am ready for the challenge. I never imagined myself saying this, but I am excited to say that I have decided to commit to being a student athlete at LSU along side my brother @shareefoneal. I am Sooooo grateful to spend my next 4 years as a Tiger.”

During his time at LSU, Shaq was a two-time All-American and is honored with a bronze statue outside LSU’s Pete Mavarich Assembly Center. In a statement, LSU men’s basketball head coach Will Wade said: “The name O’Neal is a part of LSU basketball history.” Shareef and Amirah O’Neal will look to add to that history next season.
