On April 7, Unanimous Media announced the launch of “Bamazing,” a new series of individual short films created by a team of female filmmakers that celebrate inspiring women in the world of sports. Unanimous Media co-founder and three-time NBA champion Stephen Curry and actress Storm Reid worked together to create the series with Under Armour to promote the Curry 7 Bamazing colorway sneaker that was named after Storm Reid’s “Bamazing” initiative. It was released on March 6, 2020 in honor of International Women’s Day.
Curry and Reid hosted a workshop with three rising filmmakers who were selected from the Sony Pictures Television Diverse Directors Program, Jennia Fredrique Aponte, Alessia Glidewell and Jeannie Donohoe, where each of them pitched their ideas and formats for their short films. The first film in the “Bamazing” series, ‘Keep Dreaming‘, directed by Fredrique Aponte, was released on April 7 and features aspiring basketball star, 12-year-old Jatniel Cabrera. Glidewell and Donohoe’s films will be released on YouTube in the future.
Stephen Curry, a proud father of two daughters and a feminist, was quite excited about the launch of the “Bamazing” series. “This series is all about celebrating women who inspire and uplift others, both on the court and behind the camera,” says Curry. “Storm and I were so impressed by Jennia, Alessia and Jeannie and their ideas about how to bring these films to life. They are such creative and talented filmmakers and we’re so excited to share these powerful films that hopefully inspire the next generation of young women.”
Storm Reid was also enthusiastic about the release of the “Bamazing” series, saying: “Working with Stephen and Under Armour on this project has been truly amazing. The goal of my Bamazing initiative is to encourage young girls and remind them that they are truly capable of anything, and this series certainly helps spread that message. It’s so important for women to empower and lift each other up, and Jennia, Alessia and Jeannie have done this powerfully through their inspiring films. I’m so proud of this series and for the stories that these incredible female filmmakers created.”
