The quarantine life for Wayne Brady is a bit unique. While some celebrities who co-parent with their former partners do so by way of social media and other digital means, Wayne has the benefit of seeing his daughter, Maile Brady, in-person at any time. The celebrity father tells Access Hollywood how he self-isolates with his daughter, ex-wife Mandie Taketa, and her new boyfriend.
“My ex-wife Mandie and I, we have a different and a very special situation than a lot of people that co-parent,” Wayne reveals. “For the entire duration of [Malie’s] life, we have co-parented as best friends,” the celebrity father explains. With such good relations, Wayne and Mandie made the decision to “live virtually next door to each other” years ago. This choice has proven beneficial during this time of quarantine.
“Our quarantining is a little different,” Brady shares. “We quarantine between both of our homes and I’ve got a big backyard and lots of land, so we both share this land and this space,” the celebrity father says. “Mandie, her boyfriend Jason, my daughter Maile, we are a family, so we’re like this new, nuclear family.”
Many celebrity families are choosing to make lemonade from what can easily be sour lemons because of “Stay At Home” orders that prohibit large gatherings in public. Wayne Brady also recognizes the bright side of things.
“Moments like this bring you closer,” the actor shares with Access. “So we’ve been doing TikToks, we’ve been playing board games, we played spades, hearts, we’ve been in my studio writing songs together and freestyling, walking the dogs,” Brady says. “It’s an amazing time for family because it’s kind of like a time out.”
