BARBIE DEBUTS EVEN MORE INCLUSIVE DOLLS FOR 2020

If you remember, for Barbie’s 60th anniversary last year, the brand added a new set of dolls to the collection that included dolls with wheelchairs and prosthetics. Well, this year, Mattel is going even further with their mission of inclusion and the 2020 Barbie Fashionistas collection which will include a bald barbie and a doll with vitiligo.

“As we continue to redefine what it means to be a ‘Barbie’ or look like Barbie, offering a doll with vitiligo in our main doll line allows kids to play out even more stories they see in the world around them,” Mattel’s spokesperson said in a recent interview with HuffPost.

To ensure the accuracy of the doll with vitiligo, Mattel worked closely with a dermatologist.
The more petite figure than the original has vitiligo on her face, neck and hands.

“We are proud that Barbie is the most diverse doll line on the market that continues to evolve to better reflect the world girls see around them,” said Lisa McKnight, senior vice president of Barbie, in an emailed statement with the news outlet last year in June.

Some of the new dolls are already on shelves. The vitiligo Barbie can be bought at
Target and Walmart, while others will be out later this year, including the doll with no hair.

Barbie’s Fashionista line currently has 176 dolls that represent 9 different body types, 35 skin tones and 94 hairstyles. Of course, we cannot forget about Ken who sports a a man bun, one has freckles, one has cornrows, and now one sports long hair.

Any or all of the new Barbie dolls will definitely make a great addition to any little girl’s collection!
