It has been said that one should be patient with a rival, but that is not exactly what NC A&T (North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University) had in mind. NC A&T’s rival school NCCU (North Carolina Central University) recently offered Sierra Canyon High School freshman LeBron “Bronny” James Jr. (son of three-time NBA champion LeBron James) a full scholarship. Not to be outdone, NC A&T not only sent James Jr. a scholarship offer, but they also sent scholarship offers to James Jr’s fellow Sierra Canyon teammates Zaire Wade and Shy Odom.

Zaire Wade is the son of three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade and is a high school senior, currently playing for Sierra Canyon alongside James Jr. and Odom. In addition to NC A&T, Wade has already received offers from DePaul, Toledo, Rhode Island, UC Riverside and Nebraska. Shy Odom is a sophomore playing for Sierra Canyon and has received offers from Georgetown and Tulane. However, in spite of NCCU and NC A&T trying to one-up each other with scholarship offers, it is highly unlikely that James Jr. or Wade will attend either school.

Zaire Wade is a three-star recruit, a ranking that is a bit low when compared to some of his teammates, but despite his ranking, he does not let it bother him. “I’ve always felt like I’ve been a little underrated, but I never got to play at a high level like this. So, I mean, already my recruitment is going up, the rankings or whatever [have] gone up, [since I’ve] been here. But yeah, you know, I pay attention to it, but I don’t let it break me down or anything like that, but I see the stuff, I see the articles.”

Sierra Canyon’s most recent game was against Paul IV in the Hoophall Classic, where they were defeated 70-62. James Jr. and Odom were held scoreless and Wade did not play at all. Sierra Canyon is 4-3 in their last seven games, but they are still in good shape with a current 18-3 record.
