Lauren London and Nipsey Hussle’s family – including his mother, dad, sister, grandma, and kids- honored him at the BET Awards this past Sunday (June 23). The late rapper’s loved ones were joined by celebrities who also paid homage to Hussle.
“I just want to thank you guys for all of the love and support and the marathon continues again,” Lauren London said while accepting the BET Humanitarian Award on her late partner’s behalf. Nipsey Hussle’s mother, Angelique Smith, also had words during the acceptance speech in which she recalled the fateful day of March 31, 2019.
“One of Ermias’ close friends was very traumatized,” Angelique said. “I walked over to him and put my hands on his shoulder and I told him, ‘Evan. Look into my eyes, Evan.’ I said, ‘You know that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, right, Evan? You understand that, right? So even though our bodies die, as they call it, on this side of eternity, our spirits live. We lift out of this vessel and we continue on.'”

Nipsey Hussle’s legacy certainly continues. The late rapper focused on lifting others up and showing those who society often forgets that nothing is impossible. All of the work that Nipsey Hussle invested in South Los Angeles led to Los Angeles City Council members deeming the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson as “Nipsey Hussle Square.” The late rapper’s daughter, Emani Ashgedom, was all smiles at the official ceremony.

There has been a lot of love given to the late Nipsey Hussle and his family. Perhaps, the late rapper’s grandmother said it best at this year’s BET Awards. “I was so amazed at how much love was out in the world for him that you uplifted me,” Hussle’s grandmother told the audience. “I accepted his life as God said to me, ‘Nipsey, you’ve done your job. You’ve left your mark. I’m welcoming you into heaven so you can rest.’ And I love him with all of my heart and soul. Thank you so much, world, for loving him, too.”
