Denver Smith is officially a 1-year-old. The youngest daughter of Jewel and JR Smith celebrated her first birthday earlier this week. The birthday party was a commemoration of life in more ways than one.

“Man June 9th has been a hard day for me for the last 12yrs,” JR shared in a candid post a few days ago. “With the passing of my BEST FRIEND, DRE, it’s been extremely hard at times to deal with and comprehended!”

Things were a bit different this year as Jewel had little Denver’s birthday celebration on the anniversary day of Dre’s passing. “My wife planned our daughters 1st birthday party on the same day,” JR exclaimed. “Not only was it a day of celebrations, [but] she also carries his name Denver Andrea!”

Denver’s name inspiration also comes from JR Smith’s time playing for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. The celebrity father spent many years in Denver, which is why he named his daughter after the city.

Some believe that J.R. may have his focus on the Nuggets after the NBA player revealed his discontent with the Cleveland Cavaliers. “I don’t think the goal is to win,” J.R. said during a 2018 interview. “The goal isn’t to go out there and try to get as many wins as you can,” he explained. “I think the goal is to develop and lose to get lottery picks. I think that was always the plan.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers were in the spotlight when LeBron James was a part of the team. The superstar player signed a multi-million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Lakers last year.
