Rah Ali is ready to give fans more insight into her baby’s premature birth and subsequent death. The celebrity mom opens up to PEOPLE exclusively about the experience.
“It’s not something I can really find the words to express,” Rah shares. The expectant celebrity went into labor just five months into her pregnancy last month. Baby Sanaa was born on Sunday, May 27, 2019. She died a few minutes after her birth.
Rah Ali was in pain throughout the day of May 27th. The discomfort reached an unbearable level, which is when the Love & Hip Hop New York alum decided to call her husband.
“I called my husband and he rushed home,” Rah shares with PEOPLE. “The ambulance came and they took me to the hospital. That’s when they told me that my cervix was completely open and that my water had broken.” Doctors did what they could but informed Rah that baby Sanaa had little chance of survival outside of the womb at just 20 weeks old.
“I held her,” Rah reveals. “She slept in the room with us until the morning when they took her away. I felt like I lost my soul.”
The celebrity mom further explains, “When you’re pregnant with your first child, it’s a whole mental thing just knowing that you’re going to deliver. Every day you count down and see [your due date] getting closer and closer. At five months, I hadn’t even come to the realization that it was going to happen. It was the worst experience of my life.”
Rah Ali uploaded new photos from her maternity shoot to her Instagram account this past weekend. Stay tuned for more celebrity family news!
