Russell Simmons drove Aoki and her date to the prom this past weekend. The celebrity father recorded his youngest daughter descending the staircase in the family’s home and admitted that he felt like crying.
“I almost want to cry,” Russell said. “Aoki, you look beautiful, darling,” the celebrity father told his daughter. “And you, sir,” Russell said to Aoki’s date, “you’re a gentleman. I like you.”
The celebrity father gave Aoki’s date, named Anthony, the rules during the couple’s ride to the prom. Russell later admitted in an Instagram post that he knew his daughter was in good hands. “I pick on him but he’s an amazing young man,” the star dad shared. “[He] graduated college at 18. [He is] a gentleman and a good Christian. So proud of [Aoki] for sooooo many reasons.”
Kimora Lee Simmons also expressed excitement over her daughter’s latest milestone. “Senior Prom,” Kimora wrote online. “The last dance of her entire high school experience,” the celebrity mom added. “@Aokileesimmons you looked so beautiful and elegant,” Kimora told her daughter. “I’m so proud of the young lady you are becoming! Next stop, graduation!”
Aoki heads to Harvard University this fall. The teen was accepted to the Ivy League school at just 16-years-old without being waitlisted.
Aoki is happy about her acceptance but not to the degree of arrogance. The teen took to social media a few weeks back to share the important lesson that her mom taught her about humility.
“I’m not saying we shouldn’t share our good news, but I think we should share mindfully,” Aoki said in an open letter. “And watch the line between genuine and appropriate celebrations and rubbing people’s faces in our successes,” the teen concluded.
