For many reasons, women in today’s society are choosing to wait until they are well over 40 to start having children. For some it can be financial, for some it can be that they haven’t found the right partner, for some it can center around their careers. Whatever the reason, seasoned veteran actress/model Halle Berry states that, “having children over 40 can be more meaningful,” making the experience definitely worth the wait.
Both of Berry’s children-Nahla 11 and Maceo 5, were born to the actress later in life. “You’re so much more ready to be a parent after 40 than when you’re 20,” the actress, 52, told Us Weekly exclusively at the recent John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum premiere. “You know yourself better. You’ve done a lot of things for yourself, selfishly. When you wait later in life, you can really put your kids forward I think in a more meaningful way.”
And of course, the John Wick star had some sage advice for mothers who are considering following in her footsteps. “Do it,” she told Us. “Just do it.”
Berry welcomed daughter Nahla into the world in 2008 with ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry when she was 41. In 2013, she welcomed Maceo into the world with ex-husband, Oliver Martinez, when she was 47-years-old. In 2014, she shared a heartwarming story about her daughter praying that her baby brother would make it safely into the world.
“Only her prayers could have done this. I didn’t think it was possibly at my age, honestly. They call it a geriatric pregnancy. I was, you know, on my way. This is probably way TMI, but I was kind of premenopausal, so to have this happen was huge.”
If you remember, two years ago, in 2017, rumors started to circulate about Berry possibly being pregnant for a third time. However, the X-Men star squashed the pregnancy buzz in only a way that she could.
“Can a girl have some steak and fries??” she captioned the red carpet photo.
Whatever the age, Berry unquestionably makes parenting and aging look flawless.
