Charlize Theron is happy to let her kids, Jackson and August, find their way in the world. The actress tells The Daily Telegraph that her parenting approach includes a lot of freedom in the area of identity.
“[Jackson] gets to find herself and who she wants to be – for both my kids, that’s not for me to decide,” Charlize shares. The celebrity mom further explains, “My job as a parent is to celebrate that and to love and support that… to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be who they want to be.”
Charlize Theron received a lot of backlash after confirming that her son, Jackson, was actually being reared as a girl. Several online critics accused Theron of child abuse and believed that the actress should be investigated by the Los Angeles Department of Child Protective Services (DCPS). Others, however, held to the notion of Charlize doing the right thing in letting Jackson have free expression.
“Is Charlize Theron doing the right thing,” India Willoughby asked. “Absolutely! Brilliant parenting,” the television personality shared. “Listen to your kids. Don’t force them to be someone they are not. She’s probably going to get stick (sic), but in my book, this sets a WONDERFUL example.”
