R. Kelly hasn’t reached out to his kids since 2017 despite telling Gayle King that he is trying to build a relationship with his children. The R&B singer blames his ex-wife Andrea Kelly for the disconnect.
“My kids is (sic) listening to this,” Kelly told King. “All this nonsense and I haven’t even able to spend time with them,” the singer exclaimed. “What kind of woman would tear down a dad who is trying to have a relationship with their kids,” R. Kelly asked.

Andrea Kelly was one of several women to speak in the Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly. “Robert, you know what you did,” Andrea said during one of her segments. “You know the turmoil you brought into my kids’ life,” she continued. “You destroyed Christmases, birthdays, graduations. It’s because of you, Robert, that my children were told they can’t sit at the lunch table, because [their] daddy rapes little girls. You can deny all you want to, and for that, you can go to h*ll.”
R. Kelly’s explosive interview with Gayle King of CBS This Morning continues to make waves days after the first portion of the 80-minute segment was released. So far, the public has learned that Kelly denies all allegations made against him. The singer also believes that Andrea is the reason why he owes so much in unpaid child support.
“How can I pay child support,” Kelly asked. “How,” he questioned. “If my ex-wife is destroying my name and I can’t work? How can I work? How can I get paid? How can I take care of my kids? How? Use your common sense!”
Kelly’s rant was quite theatrical. Sources close to the celebrity father, however, say that he has not had contact with his children in years. According to TMZ,
“Our sources say that’s all for show — after all, we’re told he changed his number and never gave it to Drea.
Speaking of Drea … she maintains she’s open to Kelly reconnecting with their children, who are adults now.”
R. Kelly was arrested shortly after his explosive interview with Gayle King for the $161,000 in unpaid child support owed to his ex-wife. The celebrity father proposed a payment plan in hopes of settling the outstanding debt. The judge presiding over the matter, however, refused the terms of the agreement. Stay tuned for more R.
