Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian Sr., gave their daughter, Alexis Ohanian Jr., a carnival themed party this past weekend just because they felt like it. The celebrity mom and dad shared pictures and video clips from the spectacular backyard bash with their social media fans.
“I wanted to just do something fun because we don’t do birthdays,” Serena told her online followers. The tennis champion was taken aback after viewing an unfinished slide set that her husband attempted to put together before the big event. “Alexis put together the slide,” Serena began telling her social media followers in a video clip. The celebrity mom stopped abruptly after seeing the main component of the set, the slide, sitting unattached beside the rest of the structure.
“Oh, it’s so … Oh, boy,” Serena said. Perhaps Alexis Ohanian Sr. grew tired after trying out numerous ways to attach the slide to the rest of the playset. Parents who have reached their wits end while putting together toys or bicycles for their kids can probably relate.
The good news for Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian Sr. is that there was much more to love about the day’s events than a halfway completed slide. The celebrity parents really went all out for their little one who commemorated her one-year birth date last September. There were several booths, a train, and loads of snack for party guests to enjoy. Every element of the bash was what someone would expect to see at a carnival!
Serena Williams delved into her reason for not celebrating birthdays last year when a reporter asked what she and her husband were planning for Alexis Olympia’s first birthday. “Olympia doesn’t celebrate birthdays,” the tennis star revealed. “We’re Jehova’s Witnesses so we don’t do that.”
Jehovah’s Witnesses do not commemorate birthdays nor do they celebrate holidays. The religious group believes that acknowledging such life events is not in tune with the Christian Bible.
