Rising star Cam Anthony competed on Fox’s SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO last month and won the audience over with his cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking out Loud”. BCK recently spoke to the young star and learned about his plans to further his career in the industry. Read on for more!
1. How did you become interested in singing? Where did you get your start?
My family is musical so having some interest in music was pretty common. But when I began to sing in church I fell in love with it! I was able to see how it changes people’s lives! That inspired me to take this to another level.
2. Who are your greatest inspirations in the music industry right now?
I find inspiration from a lot of different artists! Bruno is a great example! The way he works a stage and has so much swag will is unbelievable. But I also admire people like Daniel Ceasar. The way that he is able to tell a story with his voice is phenomenal and his TONE! It’s crazy.
3. What genres do you enjoy most?
When I’m chilling maybe cooking, working on school and more, I like to listen to some Lofi HipHop. It’s a more conscious version hip-hop. It uses introspection and seeks to engage with elements of human emotion. I like to do the same with my music and covers, I pull from so many different genres and use them to help people feel.
4. How was it performing at the APOLLO? Was there a lot of pressure?
Performing at the Apollo was one big staple in my career! It was such an honor to stand on the stage and share my gift. The pressure was real! So many great artists and legends have performed on that stage and went on to do amazing things! So I was pretty nervous but I had my family and amazing team there to support me and I am so thankful!
5. What would you consider the most difficult performance ?
I’d say that the finale was the most difficult. I was very excited to sing one of my favorite songs “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers! But I knew that I had to take it up a notch because there was some amazing talent in the finale! But I worked extremely hard with my producer Rex Rideout to create my own version of the song. Then the amazing Ray Chew and the Crew to bring it to life!
6. Do you plan to continue pursuing a career in show business?
Definitely! This is a great way to speak to and help people! It’s one language that everyone can understand. Music!
