Allow Star Carter (Amandla Stenberg) to take you on an adventure between two worlds. In one space, she is the neighborhood girl with a strong connection to her best friend, Khalil (Algee Smith). In another part of town is Star Carter, the preparatory school student who refuses to let you look upon her as a “ghetto black girl.”
Both of Miss Carter’s worlds collide when Khalil is murdered by a cop on what should have been a routine traffic stop. Tensions grow as the thirst for truth comes to a climax. Will Star speak up for her friend, who was essentially killed for grabbing a brush out of his car at the wrong time? Or, will she succumb to her desire to fit into a privileged world that sometimes lacks the compassion that they speak about?
