Fatherhood is treating Mahershala Ali quite well. The celebrity father shared the joys of parenting ahead of presenting the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at Sunday’s ceremony.

“It’s good,” Mahershala said. “It’s been amazing,” he added. “She wears me out and puts me in my place in her own way, but I absolutely love her and that’s my heart. She’s absolutely grounding and it’s just beautiful.”

Last year was quite the memorial one for Mahershala Ali who took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Moonlight. Little Bari Najma arrived two days before Mahershala’s big win, which made the moment even sweeter.

“[My wife, Sami-Karim, was] in her third trimester during award season, and we just had a daughter,” Ali told media during Sunday’s event. “I just want to thank her for being such a soldier through this process and really carrying me through it all.”

Sami-Karim was nothing short of a trooper back then, and she continues to give her Instagram fans glimpses of her life as a mom now.

“She was smiling last night,” Mahershala revealed during Sunday’s awards ceremony. “It’s just been great getting to know this little person whose body seems to change every day and whose awareness heightens every day. It’s just been exciting.”
