"I Know My Mom Is Glad I'm Staying Home"

Shareef O’Neal has found a home at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). The young athlete committed to the Bruins on Tuesday after announcing his decommitment from the University of Arizona and the Wildcats.

“Heading to UCLA,” Shareef told Instagram fans. “I know my mom is glad I’m staying home,” he mused.

Shaunie definitely had reservations about her son going out of state for school. The celebrity mom was quite candid with TMZ a few months back when asked about the possibility of her son attending a school in the South.

Shaq has been fairly silent about his son’s college choices but no doubt sounded off on Tuesday after learning of his son’s decision to attend UCLA. “My baby @shareefoneal decided he’s gonna be a Bruin,” the former NBA star told his Instagram fans. “Me and your mom @shaunieoneal5 are proud of you dude. This is the first of many steps to fulfill your dreams #prouddad.”

Shareef de-committed from the University of Arizona a few days ago after the scandal surrounding Wildcats head coach Sean Miller grew. “At this time, I am opening up my recruitment due to the current events with the UofA Bball team,” he told his Twitter fans. “I would like to thank all the coaches for recruiting me,” he added. “At the time my family and I think it’s in my best interest to look at other options to assure my play in the NCAA next year.”

Shareef is one of five children that Shaq and Shaunie O’Neal co-parent. Stay tuned to see how the up-and-coming athlete continues his career as a basketball player. Catch the O’Neals in their latest #FamilyDanceChallenge below!
