Sterling K. Brown was the man of the hour at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. The actor won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series for his role in This is Us, which was the first time that a black man had ever garnered such honor at the Golden Globes.
“Let me thank my wife. I love you so much, thank you for supporting me so much,” Sterling said during his acceptance speech at the awards ceremony this past Sunday. “My kids, Andrew and Amare, daddy will see you,” the actor added. “I will take you to school in the morning,” he promised.
Sterling gave a major shoutout to Dan Fogelman who wrote This is Us. “Throughout the majority of my career, I’ve benefitted from colorblind casting, which means, ‘You know what? Hey! Let’s throw a brother in this role.’ It’s always really cool,” Brown explained. “But Dan Fogelman, you wrote a role for a black man that could only be played by a black man,” the actor continued. “What I appreciate so much about this thing is that I’m being seen for who I am, and being appreciated for who I am. And it makes it that much more difficult to dismiss me, or dismiss anyone who looks like me.”
A generous, beautiful speech by a generous, beautiful guy. We are all so very proud of you, @SterlingKBrown https://t.co/c5uZXbiLve

Sterling K. Brown told ET exclusively back in September that he was grateful for his Golden Globe nomination but hadn’t prepared a formal speech to render in the instance of him winning. “If something happens where I’m lucky enough to walk up on that stage, I have things that I would like to say,” he shared. “Like, little bullet points and hopefully they will formulate themselves into [a] semi-cohesive way. But I don’t, like, write a speech,” Sterling shared. For someone who didn’t write a full-on essay, Sterling surely moved the masses with his bullet points and “semi-cohesive” words.
