There are some things that are truly hard to watch. This video is definitely one of those. Originally shared back in the earlier part of the year, this heartbreaking view of reality has recently gone viral over the past month having been liked and shared over 41K times, garnering millions of views. In the video, four parents talk to their children about how to interact with police if they are ever stopped, while at the same time recanting their own experiences with law enforcement.
“It is deeply disturbing that people of color must have these talks with our children. We should not have to behave any differently than anyone else. People need to realize that the police are supposed to protect and serve everyone in the community,” Lex Scott, the founder of the civil rights organization United Front Party, and Utah’s Black Lives Matter chapter, said in an interview with Bustle. “We have seen that police profile Black people, pull us over more [in routine traffic stops], and we see video after video of the brutalization of Black people by police, but we will continue working towards change.”
Unfortunately, this video is yet another reminder of the age in which we live. What do you think of the viral video? Sound off, we want to hear from you.
