Mercy James Pediatric Hospital is a 50-bed pediatric facility and important to the “Papa Don’t Preach” hitmaker as she wants to set a good example for her children.
“I want my kids to be loving, decent, compassionate human beings,” Madonna told People Magazine. “I try to set a good example. But it’s been a rollercoaster ride.”
Madonna adopted David Banda in 2006, Mercy James in 2009, and twins Esther and Stella Mwale in 2017 from Malawi, although the process to bring David home was unfortunately not riddled with complications and controversy. In addition to David battling pneumonia and malaria at the time, Madonna was accused of “kidnapping” him from the Home of Hope oprphanage.
“In my mind I was thinking, ‘Wait a minute. I’m trying to save somebody’s life. Why are you all s***ing on me right now?'” she told the magazine. “I did everything by the book. That was a real low point for me. I’ve had some pretty dark moments, but I’m a survivor…I’t complicated but it’s so worth it.”
