Tia Mowry is getting real about race in America. The actress shared her 6-year-old son Cree’s experience with racism during a recent interview with Wetpaint.
“To be honest with you, unfortunately, just recently, maybe about three weeks ago, my child was told by another child that he didn’t like my son’s skin color. [My son is] six,” Mowry explained. “We brought attention to the counselors and the teachers, and that was one of the first times that I, as a parent, had to really sit down and tell my son, ‘Your skin color is beautiful. It’s amazing just like everybody else’s that’s different from yours.'”
The celebrity mom further revealed, “It’s unfortunate, that at 6-years-old, that I have to start talking to him about race … Unfortunately, stuff like this is still happening, and I have to educate my son about it. But I feel so blessed to have a family that is diverse. You know, my mom’s black, my dad’s white; and then I’m married to a black man, my sister’s married to a white husband. You know, we don’t see color. We just see people.”
Cree is Tia Mowry and husband Cory Hardrict’s only child. The youngster celebrated his sixth birthday in June.
