Yara Shahidi’s new Freeform spin-off show, formerly known as college-ish, will now be known as grown-ish.
“grown-ish reflects what we’ll be dealing with in the show-that in between place where you’re not quite an adult but facing grown world problems for the first time,” show creator and executive producer, Kenya Barris said in a recent interview. “Where black-ish examins what it means to be black, grown-ish is an examination of what it is and what it means to be grown.”
Emily Arlook, from The Good Place and Hand of God; Chris Parnell, from Saturday Night Live; and Trevor Jackson, from Burning Sands and American Crime have officially joined Shahidi on the show as series regulars with additional casting to be announced soon for the 13 episode single-camera comedy which is set to start production next month and premiere in early 2018.
Kenya Barris, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland, and Brian Dobbins are set to executive produce the series.
