How do you think that you are different or similar to your character in Descendants 2?
Honestly, I think I am different because, as far as I know, I don’t have magical powers. But, the jury is still out, I try every once and awhile. But, honestly, I have never found a character who was quite as similar to me as Mal is, or that I kind of inject as much of myself [in], as I do with her. We are very similar. We are both very intense and emotional and kind of fiery, but also soft.
What is one thing that you want your fans to take away from the upcoming movie and do you think that there will be a Descendants 3?
In the movie, there are so many different lessons because every character has their own sort of story that they tell. But, I especially hope that young girls take from Mal a sort of permission to be complex, and strong, and to lose yourself and find yourself and know that you don’t always have to know who you are to be ok. I feel like there’s such a pressure, especially when you are young, to find your identity, and adopt a personality and be someone, when it’s human nature to constantly be in flux. I think we should all learn to accept ourselves in a sort of an uncomfortable, not a final form state, because that’s a beautiful place to be. And I think that there is so much pressure to decide, to settle, and that creates an inauthenticity and a disconnection from yourself. I hope that there would be a third one, but I can’t speak on that.
You have amazing style, do you think that you would ever start a clothing line?
I’d love to! Before I started to be an actor, I thought I might be a fashion designer.
You love to cook. What is your favorite thing to cook?
I love to make a pie.
Now that Descendants 2 is over, what is next for you?
I actually start rehearsal for Mama Mia at the Hollywood Bowl. It’s alike a mini-Broadway run, but in Los Angeles. And then, I have my music that I have been working on as well, and some projects that I will announce later in 2017.
What is one fun fact that you can share with our readers that no one knows about you?
I feel like I am so open but, I freckle really easily. I don’t think anyone knows that I have freckles. They are really blonde freckles and you can’t see them unless you go out in the sun.
