How do you think that you are different or similar to your character in Descendants 2?
Uma is very determined, anytime she wants something, she’s like, ‘I’m gonna get it, and nobody is going to stop me,’ and that is something that is in my personality. When I want to do something, I go for it. I don’t stop until it is almost perfect. [In terms of being different,] we are different in a lot of ways. [Uma] is very very sassy. One thing that I don’t really do is, she’s willing to do anything to get what she wants, I’m determined, but I’m not willing to step on people.
How does it feel to have several songs on the Descendants 2 soundtrack? Should we expect an album soon?
It feels great. Recording with Disney was one of my favorite parts when I was doing Ant Farm. To be back in the studio with some of the same people, is really awesome for me. It was very nostalgic. You guys should definitely expect more music.
What are some of your favorite things to do when you are not in front of the camera?
I love to watch movies with my family. We always have movie night. One person picks a movie and we go and get a bunch of food and just pile into the movie theater, that’s always fun. We used to rent out a skating rink for a couple of hours and just skate. I was always horrible. It was really fun doing that.
Are you currently working on any projects with your sisters?
Right now, we are all working separately, but you never know. We still all live in the same house and we see and talk to each other all the time, so there are definitely going to be projects coming up.
You are set to star in the upcoming television series, Black Lightening, can you tell us more about what to expect?
My character is Jennifer Pierce. She is also a superheros Se inherited powers from her father. From that show, you can just expect a lot of action and a lot of realness. Even though, it’s a superhero show and it’s a very fantastical world, it’s very grounded in realness and they deal with very real things, like police brutality. You can expect a lot of that. You can expect to laugh a lot and to cry sometimes too.
What are your future professional plans? College?
College is in my future. I want to go somewhere where I can learn about what I am going to be doing for the rest of my life, like learn how to be a director or go to a school of music. But right now, I am just working. I am too busy.
What else are you working on?
[I am working] on Black Lightening, doing my music, I have another movie coming out, it’s called, Ten, it’s the first project that I executive-produced, which was fun, that’s coming out soon, it’s a thriller, based on a novel by Gretchen McNeil.
What is one fun fact that you can share with our readers that no one knows about you?
I have not grown an inch since I was 14.
