Melanie Fiona has crossed a new threshold in her life as a working mom: nursing a sick child back to health. The celebrity mom shares her experience with YouTube fans in her latest vlog.
“If you’re a full-time mom you understand there is no time to do a lot of things like 20 minutes to yourself to do a video blog,” Melanie begins. The singer goes on to tell fans that she’s been away from the camera due to her son Cameron’s influenza.
Fiona gives moms and dads a few tips for handling congestion and irritability in their kids when the little ones are sick. Steaming appears to be singer’s best advice for loosening mucus and clearing baby’s air passageways. “It’s just as simple as turning on the shower at hot, closing the door, getting baby, going back into the bathroom, and sitting in the steam,” Melanie says. She further explains, “Cameron loves it. It’s nice and warm, it’s soothing, and it’s going to help to just loosen up all the mucus that’s in their poor little nasal cavities.”
Another home remedy that Fiona discovered during her son’s experience with the flu was essential oils. “Essential oils are just amazing for relaxing baby and kind of keeping those nasal passages really open,” she shares.
In addition to essential oils and steaming for breathing, Melanie advises moms and dads to elevate their sick child’s head during nap time. “You want to put a sheet, an extra sheet or a pillow, under their blankets so they kind of sleep on an incline so that mucus and fluid is not staying in their head, which can cause a sinus infection.”
