Matthew Knowles was just as surprised as Beyonce’s fans when he heard of his daughter’s expectancy. The celebrity father tells media that students at Texas Southern University, where he teaches courses on show business, brought him up to speed on Bey’s pregnancy.
“I was shocked,” Matthew reveals. “Let me tell you what happened. I got a first text, and I was like, ‘Why is this person saying congratulations?’ Then I get a second text from one of my students at Texas Southern, and I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He was like, ‘Go to the web.’ I didn’t know myself.”
While some grandfathers would have been angered by the fact that they were not the first to learn of their daughters’ expectancy, Matthew took the situation in stride.
“That was very smart that she did it rather than someone else, [like] the media, doing it,” he says. “So I think that was a really smart move on her part.” Matthew further explains, “She was quiet as a kid. It’s when she got on the stage that everything [changed]. Sasha Fierce, remember?”
Beyonce and her husband, Jay-Z, are expecting twins to arrive later this year. The little ones will join big sister Blue Ivy Carter at home.
