In a recent article with Paper Magazine, Chloe and Halle Bailey sit down to talk about their journey from auditioning for acting roles, getting small parts here and there, to being signed by Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment label, proving that they are still having the best year ever.
The sisters 18 and 16 have debuted their first EP, Sugar Symphony, which a compilation of original music. These self-taught musicians were able to create their own sound which is a kaleidoscope of dark, moody beats mixed in with rich gospel harmonies. As a part of the recording process, for the EP, the ladies got the opportunity to team up with Hit-Boy, who has worked with artists such as Beyoncé, Jay Z and Kanye, to co-write “Red Lights”, another track from their album. However, as excited as these young ladies are to collaborate with major artists and producers, their mentor, the Queen B herself, advises the girls to believe in just the two of them. “It’s an incredible feeling, because yes, we do believe in ourselves,” Chloe comments. “But hearing that from Beyoncé́ makes us believe in ourselves even more.”
Just as they are climbing the charts with their own sound, they still love to post a good cover. Which, of course is always a plus with their fans. Recently, the sisters posted on YouTube their version of one of “Timmy Turner,” the latest song from rapper Desiigner. The cover was an immediate hit. “I love watching people upload videos of themselves dancing to the cover like it’s a full-on trap song.” Chloe states, expressing just how important social media is to them, giving them a chance to connect with fans. “Social media has really made us feel like we’re connecting, so we try to keep that link with our fans, because without them we wouldn’t be where we are now.”
