The Obamas are back on Capitol Hill after an eventful vacation on Martha’s Vineyard. The first family touched down in Washington D.C. after enjoying sixteen days of rest and relaxation in the exclusive Massachusetts spot.
Martha’s Vineyard has been a favorite spot for the Obamas ever since the president began his first term in 2008. Back then, Sasha and Malia were little girls following closely behind their parents. Now, the two are young women forming opinions of their own.
It was just a few weeks ago that President Obama wished his oldest daughter, Malia, well on her eighteenth birthday. The commander in chief sang to his daughter and gave her a big hug during her party.
The president has expressed the challenges and fears of fatherhood on several occasions. “It’s not always easy being a father of teenage girls. But it is pretty good to live above the store,” he wrote in an editorial for MORE last year. “It just so happens that I’m fortunate enough to be surrounded by women,” he added. “They’re the most important people in my life. They’re the people who’ve shaped me the most. And in this job, they are my sanctuary.”
Malia will begin her first year at Harvard University next year while her younger sister, Sasha, continues her high school journey in Washington D.C. this fall. The president will finish out his second term this January.
