Jaden Smith and a host of other young celebs attended Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood at NeueHouse Hollywood on August 16, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. Smith, who was recently featured on the cover of Variety magazine, was one of the night’s guests of honor.
During his speech, ‘The Get Down’ star thanked Variety for recognizing him and revealed how he plans to give back to the world. He said, “My name is Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, and the way that I like to give back to the world is through the environment, because the way that the earth is going now… it is taking us to a breaking point where we almost might not be able to survive.”
“The plastic, that’s the issue,” Jaden said. “I want to create a bottle of water that is made from renewable resources, that is not made from plastic, that you don’t need fracking, that you don’t need petroleum, that you don’t need to go to war for this bottle of water,” he said, showing off a water bottle that we have seen him carry a number of times.
The 18-year-old actor, rapper, and young fashion icon stars in film, “The Get Down”, which is now available on Netflix.
When asked in a recent interview about his first reaction when approached about his latest project for Netflix, Smith commented, “I was totally in. I saw that this was going to be educational for people that were watching it, especially the youth that doesn’t always know exactly where Hip-Hop came from.” That one statement demonstrates Smith’s independent zest for life, taking his role as Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling in Baz Luhrmann’s “The Get Down” from a mere character in a drama series to a vehicle for education.
