If he had to choose between dogs and cats, Kevin Hart would undoubtedly cheer for the dogs in the universe.

“I’m a dog person,” he told media at the Secret Life of Pets New York Premiere this past weekend. “One hundred percent,” Hart added. “Cats are evil. They’re evil,” he joked.

On a serious note, though, Hart is more attached to dogs because of the affection that they give their owners. “I feel like dogs give more back,” Kevin explained. “Cats are good animals. I get why people like cats. They lay around all day. Give a cat some yarn, that cat is set for two months straight. I’m a dog person. When I come home, I like to know that my presence is felt. My dog gives me the immediate reaction and love that I feel like I deserve after a long day.”

Kevin’s days certainly have been long in preparation for the debut of his first animated role in Secret Life of Pets. “You want to be able to, hopefully, get something that’s got potential legs on it that can grow into so much more than just one [film],” he shared. “I feel like [Secret Life of Pets] can really turn into something special.”

The upcoming movie is sure to be one that kids enjoy as it centers around a terrier named Max (Louis C.K.) . The dog is living a privileged life in New York City when his space is suddenly invaded by his owner’s newest family addition, Duke (Eric Stonestreet). The large and unruly canine and Max are compelled to rely on each other after a rabbit named Snowball (Kevin Hart) saves them from getting hauled off by the pound and forces them to join his gang. The mission of the group is simple: get revenge on the humans who have done them wrong. Can Max and Duke hang?
