It’s official. Malia Obama will be a Harvard girl. President and First Lady Obama shared their daughter’s college choice with media a few days ago.

Malia will take full advantage of the “gap year” and enter college in 2017 instead of later this year. The teen has expressed her desire to be a filmmaker and has even gotten a feel for the industry through a few internships in Hollywood.

While it is unclear what the eldest daughter of the president and first lady will do with her year off from school, the gap will certainly give the commander-in-chief time to prepare for Malia’s departure.

“I’m going to be sitting there with dark glasses, sobbing,” the president recently told Ellen DeGeneres. He was referring to Malia’s graduation ceremony from Sidwell, which will take place in coming weeks. “Both of my daughters are wonderful people. Malia’s more than ready to leave, but I’m not ready for her to leave,” he added.

Malia will celebrate her 18th birthday in July. Her younger sister, Sasha, will turn 15-years-old next month.
