Jennifer Hudson was one of many stars to attend the opening night of ‘The Color Purple’ on Broadway this past Thursday. The celebrity wore a purple gown in honor of the event, while her fiance and son, David Jr., wore blue and black. Trae, Otunga’s nephew, was also in attendance and helped little David hold Jennifer’s gown up while on the red carpet.
The Dream Girls star was one of many to portray a character in the Broadway debut of Alice Walker’s hit novel. Many critics praised Hudson for her ability to perform so well in what is her first stage play.
“The pace of it is so quick,” the star told media. “The first night of previews, by the end of the first act I was just like, ‘Whoa, y’all, I think I’m in shock.’ I felt like I just hopped in some oncoming traffic.”
‘The Color Purple’ is showing in New York City through March 2016. Buy tickets here. Jennifer Hudson has one child with fiance David Otunga Sr.
