Although her confidence and beauty shines through every pose that she gives the camera, April has experienced her fair share of challenges while en route to accomplishing her dreams. The 10-year-old has vitiligo, which is a disease that causes loss of skin color in blotches. April was diagnosed with the illness when she was 6-years-old and suffered much heartache at the hands of children who made fun of her because of her “love spots.”

The young beauty, however, found strength in Instagram fans who saw her “condition” as unique. “I was around 8 or 9, around fourth grade, when I started my Instagram and then found out that so many other people out there weren’t negative people,” shares April. “I went to the positive instead of going to the negative.”

Miss Star further explains, “The message I’m trying to give everyone is that you don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.”
