Jaden Smith is adding yet another gig to his resume. The young star was recently cast as the lead character in an upcoming Netflix series called ‘The Get Down.’
Jaden will star as Marcus “Dizzie” Kipling in the series. Marcus is a graffiti writer who is young and passionate. The 18-year-old is trying to thrive in South Bronx during the 1970s and encounters many obstacles in his quest for success.
Executives believe Jaden to be the perfect fit for the character and tell media that he has already begun developing his character. “We as an audience have known Jaden since he was very young. Recently, Jaden has been seeking diverse and challenging roles and this is a testament to his passion to grow in the craft,” says series director Baz Luhrmann.
He further explains, “In the short time he has joined our acting family, he has begun developing his The Get Down skill set, even taking lessons from the legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink of ‘Wild Style’ fame, as well as steeping himself in the history and culture of the Bronx. We’re all very happy with the casting of Jaden…The Kipling family cast is now complete.”
Jaden is Will and Jada Smith’s oldest son. The couple also have a daughter named Willow. Will Smith has an adult son named Trey from a previous relationship as well.
