On behalf of Wade’s World Foundation (WWF), Dwayne Wade brought his wife, Gabrielle Union, his two sons, and his nephew to Santa’s Enchanted Forest 3 Under the Tree. The event, which took place on December 18th in Miami, made for some memorable one-on-one time with local families while the Wade’s spread the holiday cheer.
Earlier that day, the NBA star visited Liberty City Elementary students at Miami Children’s Museum where he read How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Dwayne’s foundation supports community-based organizations in Chicago, Milwaukee, and South Florida, that provide education, health, and social skills to at-risk children. WWF also offers programs dedicated to health, literacy, and fatherhood.
In his recent memoir, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball, Dwayne explained: “Given my history and the examples set for me, my sense of responsibility as a parent and spouse was already well developed.”
WWF was also founded on the principal that, as his mother has always reminded him, his life “is bigger than basketball.” In 2007, Dwayne named his sister, Tragil Wade, Executive Director of the foundation which has raised 3.2 million in these last five years as it expands for a global reach.
One of its five programs is the “Season of Giving” which seeks to create special holiday memories for families in the Chicago and South Florida areas.
