Lil’ P-Nut, star of Nickelodeon’s The Haunted Hathaways and voice-actor for the rapping Penguin in Happy Feet 2, is having his extraordinary talents recognized by the greats. The pint-sized star is featured alongside legendary Blues artis Otis Clay on the track “Trying to Live My Life Without You”, a song featured in new film Take Me To The River.
The critically acclaimed documentary about the soul of American music, Take Me To The River, is finally upon us. The film opens tomorrow, September 12, with its companion album already available. We got the chance to talk with Lil’ P-Nut about what it was like to be a part of this inspiring project.
“It was awesome !!!!!” He exclaimed. “I really enjoyed recording with true legends. They were so cool and I learned a lot from them and the music.” He went on, “The most exciting thing for me is learning and showing them what I could do. That was history in the making. I was so excited that they thought of me. Everyone was happy and nice. I want to thank everyone for letting me be a part of the history in the making.”
The young rapper also said that Otis Clay was like a “granddad”, and noted that he really appreciated the fact that he wasn’t treated like he didn’t know anything. “He didn’t treat me different, meaning he didn’t treat me like I don’t know a little music.”
But most of all, Lil’ P-Nut said he was excited to be surrounded by the history the documentary is looking to. “Even the studio had history. I mean this was music my grandparents and great grandparents listen to.” He reiterated gratefully, “I want to thank everyone who even thought of me.”
When asked about his own musical inspirations, the youngster cited Yo Gotti but stressed that there are many musicians to look up to. “Even old school music,”
he said. As far as acting goes, Lil’ P-Nut noted some of his influences as Denzel Washington and Marlon Wayans. And he couldn’t leave out his Ride Along co-stars, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.
The Haunted Hathaways is now in its second season, and Lil’ P-Nut says he just loves being a part of it. “I love working with my castmates and the best part is when I can be different things and I still do pranks!!!” he laughed.
Also catch Benjamin in the upcoming kids action-comedy Santa Hunters. The story follows his character, Alex, as he decides to undergo a “spy-mission” to prove santa’s real. He tells us the TV movie should be premiering around Thanksgiving.
